WAYS TO PARTNER WITH US
We desire meaningful partnerships with individuals and cohorts who are with us for the long haul.
Dreamers who envision a feminist future.
Patrons who insist on compensating artists for their work.
Innovators who seek a lasting legacy in arts activism.
Choose a one time amount to pay artists for their work, provide free rehearsal space and community space, or provide an out of state artist the opportunity to participate in the Interstate Initiative.
Create a $25 friend pool. Share our campaign with 10 or more friends to cover the costs of: childcare for artist parents during rehearsals, free period products at our community space, metro cards for artists, and honorariums for script readers.
Set up a monthly giving option that works for your personal budget. Monthly contributions help us budget regular expenses, like utilities, throughout the year.
Ask your employer if they match donations and double your spending power. Or ask your employer if they are open to sponsoring our organization along with your support.
Contact your investment firm to make a payment through your DAF. Ask them to feature Bechdel Project in their annual giving guides.
Provide “In Kind,” support in any of the following ways: Floor repairs, painting, and general contracting, AV systems, Artist housing, Catering and/or groceries, Childcare or Eldercare, Volunteer Administration Assistance (experience in the nonprofit sector), or Host a fundraising event. Call us to discuss other customized in kind support.
Share our Partnered for Empowerment fundraiser with others!
Still have questions or ideas? We invite anyone who wants to learn more about our organization or discuss in depth spending to set up a call directly with one of our Co Creative Directors. Email admin@bechdelproject.org
Since 2016, Bechdel Project has managed to achieve significant milestones in programming, provide support to our local community, and forever change the course of artists’ careers, all through an innovative and collaborative (intersectional feminist) approach to nonprofit arts management. We will always stay committed to continuing and expanding those efforts in addition to donor spending. Resource sharing, collaboration over competition, green initiatives, and working within a solidarity economic construct not only stretch every dollar further, but it centers our business practices on intersectional feminist tenants and aligns us with our organization's mission.
RECENT MILESTONES
The Bechdel Project is a lifeline for feminist storytellers in New York City, particularly those who are BIPOC, LGBTQ+, disabled, mothers, and women+ over the age of 40. With the recent closures of vital creative spaces like The Lark, and Space on Rider Farm, our organization has become even more indispensable to New York City's arts community. Here are some highlights from just the past two years that showcase our commitment and innovation to our community:
Jeanne Dorsey's Full-Length Play (2023):
Project: Our inaugural ROO Resident completes her play about Martha Goddard, the inventor of the modern-day rape kit.
Achievement: We helped attach renowned director Jackson Gay to the play and co-produced a reading with Ensemble Studio Theater (EST) during the First Light Festival. This garnered immense interest in further development and highlighted the crucial contributions of women to societal advancements while advocating for current day sexual assault cases and the back log of rape kits.
The Interstate Initiative (2023):
Project: We piloted this program as a freedom incubator with a series of readings in NYC of Mavens of St Catherines Island, a new play written by Atlanta playwright Catherine Mew.
Impact: The readings were very well-received by NY audiences, critics, and historians alike, and the piece has since had staged readings at The Alley Theatre, in Jan 2024, a series of stage readings at The Gullah Geechee Cultural Center (one of its dramaturgical partners), Armstrong University, and is currently preparing for a designer showcase reading with Savannah Rep in September, 2024.
FIFE Fellows Arroyo Monfiletto, Nayna Argawal, Courtney Taylor, Imogen Grace, and Cat Miller receive Development Support (2024):
Project: Developmental workshops, readings and presentations for five new plays slated for the fall of 2024.
Impact: Provided $4000 for playwrights, performing artists, designers, directors, and stage managers, enabling our writers to bring their next story to life and share their unique perspectives through development workshops and readings.
New ROO Resident: Nikki Brake-Sillá (2024):
Selection: After a rigorous selection process, Nikki Brake-Sillá was named our second ROO Resident in 2024.
Project: Nikki's groundbreaking play, "Invisi(bility)," confronts the intersection of race and disability, challenging societal norms and advocating for inclusive representation within the arts. She receives dedicated funding and access to our studios and artistic resources, enabling Nikki to cultivate transformative narratives that resonate with diverse audiences.
Resumed teaching our “life-changing” workshops at KCACTF (2024):
Project: Presented workshops to undergraduate and graduate students in the midwest focusing on gender equity in the arts.
Impact: Total of 200 students in attendance with a student telling us afterwards, “I know what I want to do with my life now!”
Expansion of Community Space Program (2025): Next year we will be expanding the amount of community space grants given as well as our artist services. This expansion aims to serve over 800 artists throughout the year, doubling our impact.
